'If you saw one of her buildings in your waking state, you'd run a mile, or sit and muse till dawn stole your vicarious vision'. - The Independent

Although Boyarde is most well known for her Fashion and Body Art, her time spent living in Belize for 5 years, spawned a Body painter by day and ‘Night Prowler’ by night. From the twists and turns of the Hummingbird Highway cutting through the mountainous jungle, to the Garifuna settlement villages by the coast, Boyarde scoured the country by night, looking to transform everyday scenery and the unspectacular, into an open film still, subsumed in cinematic style, to reveal void spaces energized by human interaction. Some places are the habitual everyday, whilst others venture more into the unknown, re-examined through the quietness of night, “these un-peopled scenes awaken the boogie in a baleful moonlit masquerade that suggest dream states full of spectral narratives” (The Independent). By using a minimum three minute shutter speed, the magic of moonlight sets the stage for something remarkable never to be seen by day.
Painterly in style yet photographic in composition, be it idealistic escapism or make-believe realism, these captivating, real-life landscapes give the viewer the perfect allegory.

Washing Line and Landscape

Part of her Belize series from her time living there for over 5 years, Boyarde discovered a new world of inspiration, where the bursting sunshine and free-spiritedness of the people created her palate of creativity

The Washing Line Series and Landscapes seize day to day life through the intensely bright light and unforgiving clouds, bringing emotion and underlying ambience to the foreground. Here, she captures everyday chores, revealing and underlying sense of pride-of-place and a peacock display of personality Here, she combines her aesthetic appreciation with the search for narrative; the vivid, playfulness of the lines, each telling their own unprompted story.
